AI Instance FAQs
Are there alternative payment methods to credit card?
No. Also, no other payment methods are currently planned.
Are there Instances without Docker?
Currently not. Further instance types are planned.
Can multiple Instances be used in a cluster?
No. Since data exchange between several plants is not yet implemented, it is not yet possible to set up a cluster in the current version. Data exchange between Instances at the same location in the same plant is also currently not possible but is already being planned for the future.
How do I support RE plant operators by using an Instance?
By using the computing power, you help us give RE plant operators a second revenue stream, which ensures that they remain profitable in the long term.
How is the performance compared to AWS, Azure or Google Cloud?
A direct comparison to other Cloud GPU Instances (with NVIDIA Tesla V100 32 GB) is almost impossible due to the many individual configurations and areas of application.
However, we offer a clear and general advantage over all other providers: We do not use virtualization and therefore no performance-specific vCPUs.
With us, every Instance runs with dedicated access to complete CPU cores.
How many Instances are there in a wind power plant?
The number depends on the type of RE plant. Small RE plants, such as our Nordtank 600 60/43 with 600 kWp, are equipped with only one Edge Data Center (EDC). Two servers are currently installed in each EDC, each providing three Instances. Larger RE plants, however, can be equipped with two, three, four or even more EDCs.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Of course, unauthorized persons have no access and the exact coordinates of the RE plants with our EDCs are not released. The tower of a wind turbine is constructed from reinforced concrete. Access is only possible via a secured steel door.
Is my Instance switched off when there is no wind or sun?
No. The servers can also run on external electricity, which is provided by the energy supplier. So, they run even when the wind power plant is stopped or there is no sun for the solar park.
What happens to my data if the Instance is canceled?
Your container will be irrevocably deleted after the paid period. There are no backups or other copies of your container or its contents.
What is the data rate?
The data rate varies depending on the location and the connection to the system. Some wind power plants are directly connected via fiber optics and can achieve high data rates of up to 500 Mbit/s (synchronous). Exposed old systems, in turn, are supplied via LTE channel bundling and/or satellite, and achieve data rates of up to 50 Mbit/s (synchronous).
Which CPU is used?
Intel Xeon Gold 6152, 2,1 GHz, 22 Cores/44 Threads, 10,4 GT/s, 30 MB Cache.
Which GPU is used?
NVIDIA Tesla V100 32 GB PCI-e.
Which memory (RAM) is used?
32 GB RDIMM 2.666MT/s Dual Rank DDR4-2666
Which rack is used in the RE plants?
We developed the unique Edge Data Center (EDC) Rack in collaboration with Schneider Electric. It has a closed cooling circuit, and it is dust and splash water resistant. The rack is IP55 certified and thus designed for the most adverse external influences of any location.
Which servers are used?
All Instances run on Dell R740 servers.
Which SSD hard drives are used?
800 GB SSD SAS 12Gbps
Who has access to my data?
Only you. Access to Instances is only possible via your Private and Public Key pair. What happens inside your Docker container is neither logged nor tracked in any other way.
Why isn’t virtualization used?
We wanted our system to be simple and at the same time high performing. That is why we decided, in the current expansion stage, for the “bare metal” approach. This way it is possible, e.g., to offer dedicated CPU cores instead of vCPUs on each Instance.
